| Very comfortable yet reassuring protection |

| Having fractured & dislocated my wrist twice within the space of a year (once biking, once snowboarding), and with a plate and a few screws holding it together, wrist guards were a must this year!
I'd used the conventional wrist guards in as a kid when rollerblading, with a solid plate running up the underside of the wrist and into the palm, but felt these would be too restrictive for snowboarding and not really necessary - the palm plate is only really there to protect from concrete scrapes!
I'd also heard horror stories of boarders taking a fall and breaking higher up the arm because the wrist guards were too rigid and didn't 'give' on impact.
The Dainese Hector seemed like the best option for me - the reinforcement runs along the back of the wrist rather than the front to stop your wrist bending back, which is how I broke mine! The adjustable 'buckle' on the back is a great feature, enabling you to adjust how rigid the guard is and even at the most rigid it does still allow a bit of flex, so as not to cause stress higher up the arm or even your fingers! I noticed it does tend to gradually slip back a bit rather than locking in place, but only when moving my wrist a lot and it hasn't caused me a problem.
I did have trouble getting gloves on & off due to being too tight, so would recommend getting a slightly bigger sized glove. Fortunately we had blinding sun / t-shirt weather this year, so stretchy pipe gloves were sufficient and easier to get on. This was my reason for going for the standalone guards rather than the integrated gloves/guards - sometimes you just don't need the gauntlets!
All in all I'm very happy with these wrist guards and would recommend them to anyone. |
