The Ortovox Beast is a snow moving machine that wont break the bank. The aluminium Blade shift large amounts of snow and cuts through Ice with ease, but is still the perfect size to disappear into any technical backpack. The T handle and sanded grip provides a rigid base and excellent leverage when time is of the essence. The Oval shaft makes the Beast shovel not only stiff but also extremely resistant to breakage.

Features Include:

T Grip handle - The T-handle is ergonomically adapted to the human hand. The advantage of this grip is an economical shoveling process – so it is done faster and requires less effort.

Sanded Grip - The shovel fits better in the hand by the sanded grip. Power is transferred to the shovel scoop directly, as the hand doesn't slip from the shaft.

Conical Shank - The shovel shaft has an oval cross section. The failure characteristics are thus much higher than round cross sections. The same is true for the stiffness. The force transmission and thus the shoveling performance are much higher.

6061 aluminum T6 - The best type of aluminum that we use in our high-end safety products. The relationship between weight and rigidity is optimally explored. The 6061 aluminum T6 is used in all Ortovox shovel shafts

5161 aluminum Blade - This type of aluminum is light and rigid and therefore our first choice for many of our shovel scoops.

Telescopic Shaft - Extendable shaft adds leverage and makes clearing large amounts of snow super easy

Foldable Handle - Handle detaches from blade to make packing super easy

I recommend the one with a saw inside the handle

I brought the one with the saw inside the handle, perfect. Really handy to have the saw stashed away, although if they made the saw 1 or 2 mm thicker then the saw would not flex as much, it is also quite small to allow it to fit into the shaft. Also, I would add holes to the face of the shovel, so that in a mountaineering context it can be dug in to snow and used as another anchor. This would also help if people wanted to fasten it to the outside of their rucksack. Other than those two points, it is a strong, easy to use (with gloves) shovel that has lots of uses, and the saw compliments it for those times when you come across unexpected ice and didn't want to shell out another £40 for a saw. It stays in the car in winter, then comes out with me when I go walking in winter.
