Coccyx Protection for Beginners

The tailsaver snowboard protection bum pad is best suited to the budget conscious rider looking to get into snowboarding or skiing for the first time. Simply slide the foam pad inside your trousers and hook it onto your belt or waist band. The tailsaver then discretely sits inside your pants and protects your bottom from impacts that inherently come with learning to snowboard.

The pad is made from very light weight foam, which makes it comfortable to wear and provides insulation from the snow when sitting down. It does not, however, provide the best protection available since it does not have any impact spreading or energy absorbing materials. For this we recommend a pair of proper impact shorts. Whatever you decide to buy, you do need to buy something to protect your tail bone. The tailsaver is probably the cheapest way to do this but is only really recommended if you are light weight, on a tight budget or are just having your first few lessons before deciding to commit to the sport and a proper pair of impact shorts.

Tailsaver saved my tail.
I bought this after considering getting impact shorts but not keen on getting betty swollocks. COMFORT 10/10 Really comfortable and you forget you're wearing it. With the added benefit of keeping your buns warm and dry when sitting on the snow or chairlift. PROTECTION 9/10 Looked after me really well, but obviously no hip protection. LONGEVITY 5/10 Not one for seasonaires. After a week of using it's showing signs of wear. Probably look like road kill after a few more uses. But I suppose at that price I could buy another. On the other hand, impact shorts with a hard coccyx pad wear right through your Gore-tex pants making them useless, so not all bad. DESIGN 8/10 The shape of it is spot on and fits really well in back of board pants. However I feel it would benefit from a bit more R&D in to the hook on the back to hold it in place. OVERALL 8/10 Would I recommend it? Yes, but don't expect it to last for ever.
