The Pocket Spike is an award winning invention from Ortovox which can be combined with the Pro Alu III shovel to produce a tough ice axe and a spiked pole. The axe blade itself attaches to the handle of the Pro Alu III shovel to produce a tough forged ice axe. The connection is made with a spring loaded clip so it won't come loose and is ideal for climbing or acting as a brace or brake. You also get a col-worked aluminium spike with a forged steel blade on the end which can turn your shovel handle into a walking aid, brake or brace. If you've only got a few feet left to the summit and can't get an ice axe out of your bag then the pocket spike is perfect. Simply pull it out, clip it on and away you go!
The Pocket Spike is only compatible with Ortovox Pro Alu III shovels.
This does not meet the requirements of DIN EN 13089:2011-05 for separate ice axes and picks.
