About the Petzl Ange

The Ange carabiner from Petzl represents the middle ground between the traditional gate carabiner and the classic wire gate carabiner. It combines the fluidity of the spring gate with the lightness of the wire gate system. Petzl's MonoFil Keylock technology ensures smoother opening and closing of the carabiner and a much longer lifetime compared to traditional wire gate carabiners as the gate is protected from lateral rubbing (against rock, etc). The unique H-profile allows the Ange carabiner to weigh an ultra-light 34 grams and provides an optimal weight-to-strength ratio. This makes the Ange particularly suited to users looking to keep their weight to a minimum while keeping the functionality of a standard size carabiner, ideal for mountaineering and multi-pitch climbing where weight reduction is key.
The shape of the nose is designed to optimize clipping and unclipping, by being completely smooth it eliminates the nose from snagging on rope and cord, also a hole in the nose allows ice, snow or dirt to be easily cleared out.
There are also some really practical features on the main body of the 'biner, an indent on the bottom of the Ange helps to ensure the sling is properly positioned on the carabiner, and the surfaces that come in contact with ropes and anchors are wider, helping the rope run smoothly and reduces carabiner wear.
