Manduka is a yoga brand built by yoga teachers for other yogis and their students. It was founded in 1997, and the name - Manduka - comes from the Mandukasana (frog) pose. The brand founder, Peter Sterios, chose the name to honour his teacher and mentor, Shandor Remete, who always included the Mandukasana pose in his practise.
Right from the start, the Black Mat revolutionised yoga practice, offering firm grip and unparalleled support unlike anything else on the market. Manduka has since gone from strength to strength, and is the go-to brand for many who practice yoga. Its products embody quality and performance - a fact which is know all over the world.
Sustainability is a key part of the Manduka philosophy. Each product is designed and manufactured with the lowest possible environmental impact, achieved through using renewable and recycled materials, omitting toxic chemicals and dyes, and minimising waste. Each mat, towel, and accessory is also made to last with the aim of reducing global consumption.
