Like an big invisible bubble, Thermacell repellent devices create a zone of protection.  The repellent, allethrin, is a synthetic copy of a natural repellent found in chrysanthemum plants.  This means no nasty odours, harmful sprays or oily lotions.

Powered by a butane cartridge, Thermacell devices need no electrical cords or batteries, using only portable heat to function.  The heat generated by the butane cartridge is directed to a metal grill holding a small mat saturated with repellent.  The heat disperses the repellent from the mat into the air, creating the zone of protection in which to gather and enjoy the outdoors without the addition of small flying bitey things.

All Thermacell Mosquito Repellers, Mosquito Repellent Lanterns, and Mosquito Repellent Torches work the same way and all are able to use any Thermacell repellent mats and refill cartridges.
