About the Academy Team

As its name might suggest, the Team is the board of choice for Academy’s team riders, and the one that chose to best represent the company’s commitment to making top quality snowboards. And with a sleek design and a range of awesome features, it’s easy to see why.

The 2019 model boasts an impressive range of features which make it a true all-mountain powerhouse. It features hybrid camber profile to allow experienced snowboarders who want to go anywhere, do anything and make the most of their riding.

Positive camber runs from behind the rear binding mounts to front of the forward mounts, with a slight early rise rocker at the tip and tail. A directional shape means it’s a little softer in the nose than the tail and that the binding mounts are set back by one inch, which aids float and control when riding in deep snow.

The Team is built around Academy’s Superlight Core, which features light yet strong Birch and Aspen wood fibres running the full length of the board. The wood is sandwiched between bi-axial fibreglass panels which run both parallel and 90 degrees perpendicular to the core. These fibres give the board excellent strength and torsional stability while keeping weight to a minimum.

Carbon Fibre stringers running from tip to tail bring the high strength-to-weight ratio, stiffness and tensile strength which this amazing material is known for. All this lends the board plenty of snappy pop with incredible strength and stability, meaning it will handle steep descents and choppy terrain without chattering or washing out.

Vibration is reduced even more by Academy’s state of the art RDS 2 Dampening System, a series of three rubber dampening layers which run around the core to absorb impact and reduce chatter when riding at speed. The Team can therefore stand up to hard landings in the park and will remain controlled and stable on the steepest descents and choppiest backcountry terrain.

The Team also features with Vario Power Grip Sidecut, which gives you the control you need for your speed, while giving riders quick turn initiation and better edge hold by creating more contact points along the edge. No one likes having an edge wash out - the Power Grip sidecut prevents this and allows you to keep control in icy and windblown conditions.
