About the Classic Expander
The Classic Expander is for use with older model twist-lock Leki Poles. The twist-lock design can become loose over time with repeated use. Should you feel your pole is not delivering secure hold it could be the Classic Expander (also called a Leki Split Dowel) needs replacing.
If replacing a worn expander simply match the colour and size. Classic Expanders are red in colour and come in 3 sizes (14, 16, & 18 mm) with each designed to fit the diameter of the shaft section they need to grip against. Simply measure the diameter of the lower section near its top:
Those measuring approximately 12 mm require the 14mm for the lower section and 16mm for the middle section.
Those measuring approximately 14 mm require 16mm for the lower section and 18 for the middle section.
Classic Expanders can be distinguished from newer model SLS Expanders which are colour coded (green, blue, & black).
