Behold the pinnacle of all-mountain performance. The Mutant 52 is the do-everything mountaineering backpack from Osprey.

The behemoth of the Mutant line the 52 is designed to carry all your expedition equipment on demanding ascents. Exceptional versatility is provided by being completely strippable allowing for a complete reduction of the overall weight of the bag.

Unlike hiking packs, the Mutant features a Snowshed fabric back panel coupled with an HDPE frame sheet. The panel allows for the comfortable carry of heavy loads yet removes the issue of snow sticking to the pack when it is dumped in the snow. The HDPE frame sheet can be removed to shed further weight allowing you to move faster and lighter.

All mountain-specific features gear the Mutant line toward the alpinist and mountaineers. Dual ToolLock allows for safe quick ice axe carry. Lateral compression straps double as a means for H carry of Skis and snow anchors. Two removable and adjustable attachment straps on the face of the pack allow you to carry snowboards or extra equipment for longer ascents. Gear loops on the hip belt allow for additional racking options when tackling those more technical climbs. A mesh storage pocket in the top lid facilitates another means for PPE carry.

A removable top lid provides main entry into the Mutant 52, the lid allows for the additional carry of rope or when overhauling the back for base camp approaches. The entire lid is optionally removable, to reduce overall pack weight or provide improved head clearance on more demanding climbs. When stripped the FlapJacket provides another level of water/snow protection keeping your gear protected.

The reverse wrap hipbelt conforms perfectly to your hips. Distributing the load vertically down your spinal column for optimal comfort.
