The best assisted breaking belay device to come along since the GRIGRI. The GRIGRI 2 is 25% smaller, 20% lighter and now accommodates thinner ropes. Now with updated colours!
The GRIGRI 2 from Petzl is the updated version of their massively popular GRIGRI. The GRIGRI 2 has been hotly anticipated by the climbing world, and it doesn't disappoint! It is 25% smaller and 20% lighter than it's ancestor and accommodates pretty much every single, dynamic rope, from 8.9 to 11mm on the market, the ideal thickness being 9.4 to 10.3mm.
An extremely versatile device, the GRIGRI 2 works equally well for lead climbing and top roping, used all around the world in every discipling of climbing, this device will accompany you for many years!
The belay technique used is identical to classic belay systems, but the GRIGRI 2's assisted breaking capability and new design allows excellent control during the descent.
The assisted breaking capability means that if the climber falls, the belayer holds the free end of the rope and a cam pivots and pinches the rope inside the device, this increases the braking action until the rope stops sliding.
To descend using the GRIGRI 2 one hand holds the rope and the other uses the handle to unlock the cam. The patented handle design allows a very gradual release of the rope.
The device is really easy to use, and a great belay device for all ages and abilities with idiot-proof diagrams on how to thread the rope engraved on the device, all this and the device is still super light, at only 185g!
