Airbeds for camping are known as air pads when designed for backpacking and bikepacking because they are thinner and lighter and pack down very small compared to a normal camping airbed or air mattress. Air pads usually manually inflate, either by mouth or by using a pumpsack A mattress style airbed can also be inflated using an electric or manual pump - car type footpump or a bicycle style footpump. Some self inflating airbeds have an internal foam core that expands when the valve is opened, requiring minimal effort to set up and providing good insulation. These are ideal for luxury camping and glamping but are heavier and bulkier and too big for backpacking.
