When choosing a backpacking tent make sure it's lightweight, compact, easy to set up and take down and wind and weatherproof. An ultralight backpacking tent will usually weigh less than 1kg but may weigh as little as 500 grams. Lightweight backpacking tents usually weigh less than 2kg whereas a standard weight backpacking tent can be up to 3Kg. Make sure your tent will pack down small to save space in your backpack. Look for a waterproof flysheet (at least 1,500mm-3,000mm rating) and taped seams for rain protection. A double-wall design (separate flysheet and inner tent) helps with airflow but also look for mesh panels and adjustable vents to reduce condensation buildup.
