Obermeyer was founded in 1947 by Klaus Obermeyer. He was a ski instructor in Aspen, Colorado, who realized his students were often cold and uncomfortable on the slopes. To solve this problem, he began innovating ski apparel from his attic. Obermeyer has a long history of innovation in ski wear - they made the first down ski parka and the "I-Grow" extended wear system for kids' clothing, which allows garments to be lengthened as children grow.
