Rab “The Mountain People” specialise in high-performance and sustainable clothing and equipment made "by climbers, for climbers”, combining innovative technologies with tried and tested materials to produce honest and hard-wearing clothing, footwear, equipment and accessories for use in the mountains.
Rab was founded by Scottish climber, Rab Carrington, in Sheffield in 1981. Whilst stranded in Argentina in 1973 and in need of money, Carrington learnt the craft of constructing technical sleeping bags. Eight years later and now living in Sheffield, Carrington began hand stitching and selling his own line of sleeping bags from his attic. As demand grew from friends and the local climbing community, he purchased a local factory to expand production and Rab the company was born. Before long, production expanded from sleeping bags to insulated and technical clothing, including jackets, gloves, and base layers.
To this day, Rab continues to supply equipment to climbers and adventurists all over the world whilst running on the same core values they always have, drawing inspiration from stories and experiences of those who make and test their products, as well as those who wear them. Sustainability is important to Rab, and so they have their own service repair centre. If you happen to snag your garments, you can send them to Rab for a full repair. You can also send it for a professional wash. This service is true to their sustainability promise and means you can enjoy your garments for longer!
