Rooftop tents (RTT), sometimes known as roof box tents, are tents that mount onto a car or van’s roof rack or crossbars, providing an elevated sleeping space. Rooftop tents are popular for overlanding, car camping and road trips due to their quick setup and their ability to keep campers off the ground. There are three main types of rooftop tent - softshell, hardshell and hybrid. Softshell rooftop tents are the lightest and most affordable and they fold out to provide the largest sleeping areas. Softshells do, however, take a bit longer to set up and their fabric walls are less durable in extreme weather.
