Patagonia T-Shirts, Mid Layers, Fleeces & Shell Jackets come in a variety of 'fits'. Check the product description on each item to see which fit applies.

Formfitting: This is Patagonia's fitting style designed to conform to the body's contours.

Slim Fit: This is a slightly closer fitting style used in Patagonia's technical garments designed to be worn over baselayers and light midlayers.

Regular Fit: This fit is designed to be neither slim nor oversized and will fit over heavier midlayers.

Relaxed Fit: Similar to a regular fit however this fit provides a bit of extra room for movement and comfort.

In Our Opinion

Patagonia T-Shirts, Mid Layers, Fleeces & Shell jackets tend to fit very closely to the size chart above, so for a good fit, please go by these measurements. If you want a baggy look and feel then go for a size larger.

We are confident in the fit of Patagonia T-Shirts, Mid Layers, Fleeces & Shell Jackets because:

  • We have tried the clothing on ourselves, in a full range of models and sizes.
  • We monitor customer returns.
  • We see customers wearing the garments in our Snowboard/Ski Shop
  • We have been selling them for years!

How to Measure Your Chest

  • Wear just an undergarment or nothing at all.
  • Stand up straight with your arms hanging by your sides
  • Breath normally and run a soft tape measure under your arm pits over the largest part of your chest and across your shoulder blades. The tape measure should be snug, but not tight.

Clothing Dimensions

We strongly recommend that you never measure an item to determine the chest size you need.  Actual garment sizes differ substantially from the dimensions quoted in the table at the top of this page because the manufacturer makes allowances for:

  • The wearing of mid and / or base layers beneath an outer layer
  • The freedom of movement required for outdoor activities
  • The cut and style of the jacket
  • The insulation which may or may not be included in a particular layer.

All of the above will differ depending on a garment's specific design.  A jacket's physical dimensions will always be significantly greater than your actual chest measurement but this difference will also vary from layer to layer.
