Shin & Knee Pads

Knee pads and shin pads are extremely important pieces of Body Armour that really can make a huge difference to your snowboarding experience, especially when learning. If you fall forwards, you should always make sure your knees hit the snow first.

A good quality pair of snowboard knee pads makes this painless. You then allow your upper body to hit the snow second, with your arms folded over your chest to provide protection for your rib cage. Do not be tempted to put your hands out to break your fall even if you are wearing Wrist Guards because you could still break a wrist. Wearing a good quality pair of snowboard knee pads will give you the confidence to drive your knees forward into a fall and significantly reduce the magnitude of the overall impact. Snowboard knee pads also make it comfortable to drop to your knees whilst waiting for your mates or having a rest; if you do this repeatedly without knee pads you’ll end up with very tender and bruised knees. Snowboard shin pads come into their own for freestyle snowboarding riding rails and boxes in the park.
