Tunnel tents are great for bikepacking, trekking and winter camping when weight, space and weather resistance are key factors. A tunnel tent is shaped and supported by a series of arched poles. The interior is specious and not obstructed by the poles, which form the structure of the walls and roof. This simple structure makes tunnel tents easy to erect. Tunnel tents tend to be lighter than equivalent sized dome tents because they tend to be less tall and to have fewer/shorter tent poles. Some tunnel tents have an asymmetric design where the height of the tunnel is reduced at the end where your feet go, so you can only sit fully upright at one end. This design saves fabric and reduces weight. An asymmetric tunnel tent has better aerodynamics so is a great option for mountaineering and camping anywhere else where it might be windy.
