The 2020 Faction Dictator 3.0 is a directional freeride ski aimed at riders looking to split their time evenly between groomers and off piste. Updated for 2020, the new Dictator uses new geometry to open the whole mountain up.
The 106mm waist is at the edge of ski-widths which can lace tight turns, but wide enough that turns can easily be smeared out and offer genuine float through deep powder.
Full sidewall construction with a double titanal laminate give this ski a stiff flex, huge edge grip and a responsive ride quality in a lightweight package. This makes it suited to experienced and aggressive skiers looking for a powerful ski that can handle high speeds on a variety of snow conditions. That's all built around a poplar & paulownia blend core, which works with the double metal laminate to keep the ski damp and stable but surprisingly lightweight and easy to throw around in tight spaces.
Underfoot, a full 3mm of traditional camber runs the majority of the ski, providing a lively rebound and adding further to the skis grip and stability. The tip of the ski has a heavily rockered profile that adds float and pivot in soft snow, eases turn initiation and gives the ski enough maneuverability to tackle moguls, trees and any other tight spaces you come across. Gentle rocker in the tail adds further maneuverability and pivot but still maintains the powerful, grippy turn exit's that you'd expect from a traditional flat-tail design.
The Dictator series also features Faction's proprietary dual sidecut radius & transition zones technologies. These use a combination of sidecut shapes which work with the areas of rocker and camber and allow the ski to easily take on a dynamic range of turn shapes, overall making it incredibly maneuverable but also more stable at high speeds.
The 2020 Dictator 3.0 from Faction is an ideal 65/45 option for aggressive skiers who will frequently be switching from fresh groomers to chopped and refrozen snow and all the way to powder days. Additionally, because of it's impressive combination of low weight and stability it could be a great touring choice for those taking shorter tours and focusing on the downhill performance.
Paulownia / Poplar Core - A great blend of qualities, this core is responsive, absorbs vibration and has a natural and consistent flex which can only be found in a real wood core
Dual Titanal Laminate - Full layer of the strong and lightweight aluminium alloy titanal gives outstanding torsional rigidity and edge hold for a super responsive feel
Fibreglass - Ensures long lasting pop and increases the compressional strength and durability of the wood core
Dual Radius Sidecut- This is a combination of a tight sidecut in front of the boot, and a larger sidecut behind, this enables the skier to make short carves, yet the ski is still stable and easy to control at high speeds
Transition Zones - The camber / rocker profile shapes are blended so that the skis are easy to turn and fluid to ski. It also makes the skis feel similar in all conditions so they stay predictable to use
Sidewall construction - Sidewalls are strong, durable and give great grip
Rubber in layup - Rubber separates the base and the core, this helps to filter out vibration making for a more comfortable, more responsive ride
Full Sandwich Construction - Layers of fibreglass above and below the core give a smooth consistent flex without adding noticeable weight
