Previously known as the Kink, the Transfer 89 is Volkl's top option for skiers looking to blend a resort-oriented all mountain ski with freestyle performance.
All aspects of the ski are designed for fun and versatility, starting with the multilayer full wood core. The hardwood Beech sections around the binding area promote power transmission to the skis edge for a responsive performance. Meanwhile, use of poplar wood further out at the tip and tail of the ski lighten the construction to reduce swing weight and contribute to a medium, forgiving flex and playful personality.
The core is reinforced with fibreglass weave to improve torsional stiffness, so the ski can hold its shape for a confidence-inspiring stability through high speed carves. There's also carbon stringers which add plenty of pop and energy to the ski- rebounding you from turn to turn, and making sure you can always clear it on to that rail or in to the landing zone of kickers.
At 89mm underfoot the Transfer 89 offers a slightly wider platform than traditional park skis, and that helps it perform in a wider range of areas- shallow sections of fresh snow, slush and chopped up snow off the side of the piste are all easier to manage, and the rockered tip and tail allows the ski to keep on top of those conditions while also feeling nimble and easy to manoeuvre.
Underfoot, there's plenty of traditional camber to provide the grip and edge hold needed on firm conditions, whether rallying down icy early morning groomers or carving into kickers in the park. A directional shape puts a slightly wider profile at the tip of the ski than the tail, and that adds to the skis stability when pushing the speed limits out of the park, but there's still a balanced feel to the ski that's always welcome when hitting rails and boxes.
The 2018 Volkl Transfer 89 is an ideal ski for anyone looking to prioritise an almost equal amount of freestyle and frontside all-mountain performance, with a great blend of ease of use and serious capability.
Multi Layer Woodcore - Specific to Volkl's freeski range, the multi layer woodcore features dense ash underfoot for a solid mounting platform and softer poplar in the rest of the ski for resilience, pop and snap. This makes the ski lively and fun
