About the Edelrid Starling Pro Dry 8.2 MM

The ideal introduction to the double-rope technique, the durably water-repellent and dirt-resistant Starling Pro Dry 8.2 mm is a robust half rope with supreme handling properties and great value for money.

The big advantage to the Starling Pro is its epic low water absorption, thanks to the supreme Pro Dry treatment. Whereas untreated ropes can absorb up to 50% of their weight in water, becoming extremely heavy, difficult to handle and even freezing in cold conditions, Pro Dry ropes are quick drying, absorb virtually no water and are resistant to freezing. Due to their minimal water absorption (1–2 % according to the UIAA water-repellent test), Pro Dry ropes hardly increase in weight, making them ideal for activities where ropes are more likely to get wet, such as ice climbing or mountaineering.

Thanks to Edelrid's mega 3D Lap Coiling technique, you don't need to uncoil this rope for the first time. Yep, just pull it out and off you go. The marking on the rope, together with a detailed description on the packaging, ensures you do things right and can use the full potential of the Starling Pro Dry without annoying twisting and tangling. The mega Edelrid suppleness is there thanks to the smart Thermo Shield technology, which is a treatment involving a thermal process that perfectly aligns the core and sheath yarns. A special heat treatment relaxes and then shrinks the rope’s fibres, which harmonises the gliding characteristics of the yarns inside the rope, making it supple and compact. The result is the creation of ropes that will neither shrink retrospectively nor quickly become stiff.

As a twin rope, the Starling Pro Dry has a lighter weight and thinner diameter. There are greater safety reserves due to the increased redundancy that comes with using two ropes, while the significantly greater sharp edge resistance reduces the risk of total failure (stonefall, breaking over a sharp edge). This is why twin ropes are particularly suited to alpine climbing in demanding terrain or for ice and mixed climbing. Using twin ropes also allows you to abseil twice as far, so you can escape from a wall that bit quicker.

Go explore in confidence with the rugged and dynamic Starling Pro Dry 8.2 mm rope from Edelrid.

Excellent choice for all season climbing, perfect striaght out of "the box",have used 3 times as doubles no problems, Looking forward to using them this winter. They handle well through the belay device and actually I don't think they are that heavy by comparison to my old ropes. I would recommend without hestitation. Great service, good to be kept informed and of course a keen price.
