Slingfin is dedicated to creating the highest-quality tents for backpacking and mountaineering with designs crafted to perform in the most inhospitable of conditions.

With a deeply rooted heritage in the outdoor industry, Slingfin founder Martin Zemetis brings both experience and innovation to his every design.  Inspired by a desire for stronger and lighter equipment, Slingfin combines the finest technical materials with attention to detail to ensure the quality of their every product.

Following a background designing for brands such as The North Face and Sierra Designs, Martin went on to co-found Mountain Hardwear where he remained for a number of years until the lure of a new challenge led him to found Slingfin in 2010.  Their range of high alpine-focused dream tents quickly grew to include 3-season and minimalist shelters blending high-quality and stability with a detail-driven design and attractive pack weights.

Slingfin keeps the strength-to-weight ratio of their tents at the forefront of the product development process.  Free from the pressures of maximising profit at the expense of quality they never shy from turning to premium materials to inform their every design.  Slingfin believes a good tent should be a long-term investment - one you can count on to see you through the harshest of conditions for years to come.

WebTruss System:

Pioneered in their alpine range, the WebTruss system adds structural integrity with the minimum of added weight.  The WebTruss gives you an ultralight pole sleeve that lets you set up and tension the pole frame before clipping to the canopy.  This is especially useful when pitching in exposed terrain, where wind can play havoc with traditional clip/pole sleeve designs.  By using the WebTruss, you can attach the rainfly before clipping in the canopy.  This helps protect the canopy in wet weather and lessens exposure time when setting up in windy conditions.

The WebTruss gives you the speed and ease of a clip system with the strength of a sleeve, effectively holding the pole structure in place before clipping to the canopy as one.  The sleeve system increases a tent's overall strength by distributing force over a larger surface area making it better able to cope with stress from wind and snow loading.  Better still, the design is optional and you can clip the poles directly to the frame when camping in milder conditions for a reduced pack weight.  The WebTruss can be found on the Crossbow series tents and the Windsaber.

Outrigger System:

The OutRigger system lets you attach trekking poles to the pole frame for added stability when camping in alpine terrain and winter conditions.  Simply take your adjustable trekking or ski poles and fix them to the attachment points at the ends of the ridge pole.  This gives you two extra fixed points of ground contact to help stabilise the tent against wind and snow loading.  An optional design, the attachment points can be left at home when camping in good weather for a reduced pack weight.

The Outrigger is found on the Portal, Crossbow, and Windsaber.

Below, we take a look at some of Slingfin's outstanding designs for trail and alpine camping.

2 Lite: Perfect For Minimalist Trekking & Biking

Small in size yet deceptively roomy, the 2 Lite tent is one of Slingfin's lightest backpacking shelters. With a trail weight of just over 1kg and a compact pack size of 33 x 12.5 cms, the 2 Lite is crafted for fast-and-light outdoor trips - from wild camping to bike-packing and climbing missions.

The 2 Lite offers on-trail comfort while withstanding harsh weather conditions.  It boasts an incredibly stable design and is one of the strongest sub-3 pound tents on the market.  Its simple to pitch tunnel design reduces pack weight while double doors and spacious vestibules add convenience and storage space.  In good weather, the doors can be rolled back to enjoy the view while the tops of the vestibules extend beyond the body of the tent to give you dry entry when raining.

Inside, the ergonomic footprint and drawn down shape provide a tapered width and headroom letting two people sit comfortably side-by-side.  An internal guyline system can also be utilised, letting you tension the structure without venturing outside in bad weather.

Slingfin uses only the finest grade fabrics and materials in their shelters. A lightweight 15D nylon ripstop flysheet optimises pack-weight and features a silicone-PU treatment to deliver reliable and long-lasting rain protection. Floor fabric is 20D nylon ripstop with PU treatment to 1200mm HH. Poles are high-quality DAC Featherlite NSL.

Crossbow 2 Series:  A Lightweight Tent For All Seasons

The Crossbow comes in two styles:  The Crossbow 2 RS (ripstop) for the year-round adventurer or the Crossbow 2 Mesh, for those favouring more 3-season camping and trekking.

The difference rests in the canopy design.  The RS delivers Slingfin's lightest winter-ready tent thanks to a breathable 15D nylon ripstop canopy for added protection against cold, wind and spindrift.  For those camping in milder weather, the Mesh features a lighter, 15D nylon no-see-um mesh canopy for added breathability and a lower pack weight.

Shared features include Slingfin's patented WebTruss and OutRigger systems (see above for details), optimising each tent to handle harsh weather conditions.  A ridge pole adds extra structural integrity while an internal guyline system lets you tension the tent without venturing outside in poor weather.

Dual doors offer hassle-free access for both occupants with a vestibule on either side for added storage. The Crossbow RS features two sets of door panels with an outer ripstop door protecting against dust and spindrift.  The outer door can be rolled back in warmer weather to expose the interior mesh door for ventilation and to protect against bugs.  The Crossbow Mesh features single mesh panel doors for greater ventilation in milder climes.

With its roomy interior and stable design, the Crossbow 2 gives you two great tents for a variety of technical outdoor adventures.  The RS delivers a capable alpine tent that's perfect for backcountry ski tours, snowshoeing excursions, and fast and light alpine climbing; while its Mesh counterpart is a capable tree-line tent that's perfect for 3-season use, from wild camping and trekking to fast and light alpine climbing and more!

Portal 2: 3-Season Ultralight

Optimised to handle harsh weather conditions, the Portal 2 incorporates technologies from Slingfin's Expedition Series shelters to deliver a sub 3lb tent (trail weight) with a degree of stability and weather resistance previously reserved for dedicated four-season shelters.

A cross pole in the roof adds structural integrity and lifts the flysheet from the inner while providing rain cover to the entrances. The OutRigger system lets you attach your trekking poles as additional uprights for further stability against harsh winds or snow loading.  Internal guylines can also be utilised to give the Portal incredible lateral stability for almost no weight penalty. This lets you tension the tent without venturing outside in poor weather.

The high-volume pole structure provides well-distributed headroom without the weakness of hubs. Dual doors offer hassle-free access for both occupants with a vestibule on either side for added storage. The Portal's inner 15D nylon no-see-um mesh fabric is great for camping in milder climates, aiding moisture management and protecting against bugs.

Slingfin ensures only the finest grade fabrics and materials are used in their tents. An ultralight yet tough 10D nylon 66 ripstop flysheet optimises pack-weight and features a silicone treatment front and back to deliver reliable and long-lasting rain, mildew and UV protection. Double-needle lap-felled seams on the fly do not require seam sealing or tape.  The floor is fully taped 20D nylon ripstop with PE treatment to 1800mm HH. Poles are high-quality DAC Featherlite NFL.

Windsaber: Lightweight Expedition Tent

Combining an ultralight design with an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, the Windsaber redefines what's possible for a lightweight mountaineering shelter.

Featuring Slingfin's patented WebTruss and OutRigger attachment (see above for details), the Windsaber is optimised to handle extreme weather.  A ridge pole adds extra stability and steepens the wall angle for optimum internal space and headroom.

The freestanding semi-geodesic design is quick to pitch with room enough for two people and kit. The interior is shaped to maximize usable space with multiple pockets for storage. O-rings provide internal guyline compatibility, letting you tension the tent without venturing outside in poor weather.

The WindSaber’s tunnel entrance provides egress should your zippers freeze and doubles as a storage area. It provides quick access to your gear without compromising floor space or having to open your tent to the elements. A traditional zip mesh/ripstop double door on the other side provides quick access and won’t get caked with spindrift.

A drawstring vent at the foot of the tent features a mesh layer that lets in airflow while keeping out bugs. Crack open the top of the door to create a cross breeze that keeps condensation to a minimum.

The Windsaber tent from Slingfin combines a spacious interior and low pack-weight with structural integrity and premium fabrics to deliver a capable alpine tent that's perfect for 2 person backcountry ski tours, high-altitude expeditions and mountaineering trips.
