As a professional compass, the Expedition has all of the standard features including; a transparent and curved base plate, rubber friction feet for grip on map cases, night-enabling luminous markings, magnifying lens, map-measuring scales in mm or inches, 1:25,000, 1:40,000, 1:50,000 and GPS scales. The global needle also makes the compass possible to use anywhere in the world.
In addition, the Expedition has a built-in adjustment for magnetic declination that includes both permanent and local adaptation. The detachable safety-release lanyard features two measurement increments miles and kilometres for both 1:25 and 1:50 scales. These can be used to measure distance accurately.
Built into the compass face is a clinometer, that can be used to measure slope angle. When applied in conjunction with the included slope card it can be used to detecting avalanche risk in winter mountain environments.
