The Pecker piton from Black Diamond is a classic peak style saftey placement for climbing.
Designed for subtle seams, hairline cracks, and indistinct fractures, the Peckers knife-thin, the double-tapered blade fits where nothing else will. Serrated teeth on the tips of the piton provide improved purchase on softer rock formations.
Commonly used for aid climbing these pitons can also serve as protection on winter climbs and alpine routes.
A tapered tip allows the Pecker to be placed similarly to that of a Nut. Similar to an ice tool, the tip of a beak is angled downwards. This allows the beak to ‘hook’ over constrictions far back in a crack.
A useful tool for a climbers arsenal.
